Phuket is currently experiencing perfect weather for traveling!

With its dry season in full swing, the island offers clear, sunny skies and comfortable average temperatures, making it ideal for visiting beaches and exploring tourist attractions. The sea is calm, and the air is pleasantly less humid, creating the perfect conditions to enjoy a trip to Phuket.

Last week, I had back-to-back flights to Phuket and got to explore the area around the airport. If you're starting or ending your trip near the airport and have a day or two to spare, here are five recommendations to make the most of your time:

1. Relax at Nai Yang Beach

Nai Yang Beach is a hidden gem compared to the bustling Patong Beach. It's part of a nature reserve, but the area still offers plenty of restaurants and massage shops, making it an excellent spot to unwind.

The beach is less crowded, and you’ll find a wide variety of dining options right by the shore. After a swim, you can indulge in Thai cuisine and fresh seafood while enjoying stunning ocean views. Even in the evening, the serene sound of the waves and the calming atmosphere make it the perfect place to relax after a flight.

2. Eat and Unwind at Nai Yang Beach

Besides its tranquil vibe, Nai Yang Beach is lined with fantastic restaurants and massage shops. It’s a great way to recharge your body and mind, whether it’s through a delicious meal or a relaxing massage. After all, nothing beats dining by the sea while listening to the soothing sound of the waves.

3. Visit Mai Khao Beach to Watch Airplanes

Just a short ride from Nai Yang Beach, Mai Khao Beach is a unique spot where you can watch planes take off and land. It's about a 30-minute walk, but renting a bicycle from your hotel makes the trip much easier and more enjoyable.

Though I didn’t manage to capture the iconic Instagram shot of a plane passing right overhead, the experience of watching airplanes up close is thrilling and unforgettable.

4. Take Advantage of Hotel Amenities

One of my favorite stays near the airport is Proud Phuket Hotel. This charming hotel boasts a beautiful pool, gym, and spa facilities. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and it's just a 10-minute walk to Nai Yang Beach.

The hotel offers convenient services like bicycle rentals and shuttles to the beach, making it easy to get around. There's also a Seven-Eleven within a 5-minute walk for late-night snacks.

If you're planning to relax at the hotel, take advantage of its amenities and enjoy a hassle-free stay.

5. Explore the Open Market

Right behind Proud Phuket Hotel, you'll find a lively open market. Here, you can shop for fresh fruit, street food, accessories, and massage oils at reasonable prices. It's the perfect place to pick up souvenirs or simply enjoy the local vibe.

Whenever I stay here, I pack light to leave room in my luggage for all the fruit I bring back!

Whether you're starting or ending your trip in Phuket, the area near the airport has plenty to offer. From serene beaches to vibrant markets, there's something for everyone. I highly recommend staying near Nai Yang Beach and exploring the area for a peaceful yet fulfilling experience.
